Our independent living community is designed for those who want to enjoy their golden years without the worries and stresses of home maintenance and upkeep all in a security-controlled residence. When you rent an independent living apartment, you will not have to pay for maintenance. No painting, roof and gutter repairs, windows, sprinklers, carpets, dishwasher repair, you name it – we take care of it all. No major-league, structural maintenance and ongoing seasonal maintenance like shoveling, landscaping, or raking. Plus, park your car in our heated underground parking, and never worry about scraping your windshield again.

Independent Living is designed for seniors who are generally healthy, active, and able to live on their own but may want assistance with certain tasks like housekeeping or meals. It offers a supportive community, amenities, and access to healthcare services, without the need for intensive daily care. 

If you or your loved one are looking for a more social and maintenance-free lifestyle without needing daily medical assistance, independent living may be a great fit. Touring communities, meeting residents, and exploring available services can help in deciding.

While Independent Living communities do not provide medical care, many, like Sholom have partnerships with healthcare providers, offer wellness programs, and have access to nursing services if needed. We are a full continuum of care community at Sholom with onsite rehabilitation, Home Care services, transitional care, and additional care offerings if needed down the road. 

Independent living is designed for seniors who can live on their own but want a maintenance-free lifestyle with social opportunities and amenities. Assisted living provides 24/7 emergency response care staff, and additional support with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, and medication management.

Costs vary based on apartment size and added amenities like garage rental or meals. On average, independent living communities in Minnesota range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month. Some communities offer flexible pricing or additional services for an extra fee. Our monthly costs are between $2,000 and $3,500 depending on the variables listed above.

Independent living is typically private pay, meaning Medicaid and Medicare do not cover costs. However, some seniors use long-term care insurance, veterans’ benefits, or personal savings to help with expenses. Minnesota has some state assistance programs for housing, but eligibility varies. We do have a partnership with ElderLife Financial, which helps families navigate financing options, including bridge loans and benefits, to ensure affordability.
