Highland Area HUD Senior Housing
Through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), many Americans are able to find supportive, secure housing without being over-burdened by the cost of rent. HUD subsidized housing ensures that rent is manageable, and that housing is of high quality. Sholom is pleased to offer HUD subsidized housing for seniors in the Highland area at our Menorah Plaza, Menorah West, and Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Apartments locations.
Seniors living in Highland HUD subsidizing housing have access to many services and amenities, along with privacy and comfort.
Qualifying for HUD Senior Housing in Highland Area
HUD provides agencies with funds to plan, build, and manage housing. To qualify for our HUD housing, applicants must be single, or a couple in which at least one person is 62 or older. Applicants must also have an annual income that does not exceed HUD limits, and be able to maintain lease requirements.
HUD qualifications say that an applicant’s income must be below 80 percent of the median income for the county. They must also be a US citizen or have eligible immigration status.
Our HUD housing rent is about 30 percent of a resident’s adjusted income. We can help interested parties determine if they are eligible.
Why Choose Highland Area HUD-Supported Senior Housing
For many seniors, their housing needs change over the course of a lifetime, and through life changes. Some seniors may need additional help around the house or nursing care as they grow older. Supportive housing helps seniors retain their valued independence while ensuring health, safety, and well-being.
Even for seniors who do not need extra levels of care, circumstances may require a move into senior housing. Affordability, accessibility, and ease of access to community supports can become challenging. There is a strong link between housing and healthcare, both of which are vital to ensuring seniors are supported.
HUD subsidized senior housing in the Highland area is a good fit for any senior who needs an affordable, comfortable place to live, regardless of their circumstances.
For lower income seniors, working with a HUD subsidized agency ensures that the cost of housing is affordable. Many seniors are on a fixed income, and every penny counts. If seniors are spending a large portion of their income on housing, they may not be able to afford repairs and modifications while aging at home. For qualifying seniors, HUD supported housing reduces financial stress and worry, without sacrificing quality of life.
The need for senior housing is only going to increase as the American population grows in the 65 and over demographic. According to the HUD, by 2035 about one in every three households in the United States will be headed by someone 65 or older. At the same time, the number of people aged 80 or older is expected to reach 24 million. That is part of why Sholom is working to ensure that seniors in the Highland area have access to safe, supportive, affordable housing.
