Presented by Kristin Anderson, Professor Emerita of Art & Design at Augsburg University, this fully illustrated series brings local history to life through storytelling, imagery, and architectural insight.

Each session stands alone, but together they tell a broader story of how community, culture, and commerce shaped the Twin Cities we know today.

This illustrated presentation explores Summit Avenue’s development, its architectural significance, and its role as one of Minnesota’s most treasured streets.


Part 2: St. Paul’s Historic Irvine Park

Just steps from downtown and West Seventh Street, Irvine Park is one of St. Paul’s oldest neighborhoods. Built around a charming public park and surrounded by historic homes, this area tells a powerful story of early settlement, urban change, and historic preservation in the Twin Cities.


Part 3: Building for Beer in the Twin Cities

From 19th-century breweries and biergartens to today’s craft beer renaissance, brewing has left a visible mark on the Twin Cities landscape. This presentation explores the architecture, neighborhoods, and cultural spaces shaped by the brewing industry from its earliest roots to the present day.

Kristin Anderson is Professor Emerita of Art & Design at Augsburg University in Minneapolis. Her work focuses on architectural history, cultural landscapes, and the visual stories that define communities.
