DESCRIPTION:Older adults often carry a lifetime of experiences that shape how they respond to loss\, transition\, and change. In this one-hour session\, Crystal Houghtaling\, LSW\, LALD\, Housing Director at Roitenberg Family Assisted Living\, will explore the ways trauma and grief can impact mental health in later life\, and how care providers and professionals can respond with empathy and understanding.\n\n \nCrystal has been dedicated to direct patient care since 2004 and became a licensed social worker in 2019. Her experience spans County Case Management\, Long-Term Care\, Transitional Care\, and Memory Care programming\, and she has held leadership roles including Campus Director of Social Services for Sholom. Today\, she continues this work as Housing Director at Roitenberg Family Assisted Living\, where she focuses on creating supportive\, enriching environments for older adults and advancing trauma-informed approaches to care.\n\n\n \nLearning Objectives:\nParticipants will be able to:\n\nRecognize common ways trauma and grief may present in older adults.\nUnderstand how life transitions and cumulative losses can affect later-life mental health.\nApply practical\, trauma-informed approaches to support emotional well-being in aging populations.\n\nThrough discussion and real-world examples from senior living\, attendees will gain tools to better support older adults and foster environments that promote dignity\, resilience\, and connection.\n\n \nRSVP Information:\nAttendees are welcome to join us in person before the workday and enjoy a light breakfast.
