As the weather is getting nicer many of us head outdoors to take part in many different leisure activities. Here at Sholom our seniors have a desire similar to yours! They enjoy just sitting outside on the patio soaking in some Vitamin D, chatting with friends as well as active interests such as fishing, picnicking, gardening and community outings.
In order for the residents and tenants’ ongoing leisure interests to be met it takes the efforts of many. Both the Shaller and Ackerberg Campuses have fully staffed Therapeutic Recreation departments. Each department consists of individuals responsible for the planning, implementation and facilitation of many different programs to fulfill the six dimensions of wellness. Our programs are tailored to meet the physical, social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and sensory needs of our residents and tenants.

The Therapeutic Recreation department of the Ackerberg campus plans programs and special events for the tenants of Knollwood Place Apartments, Roitenberg Family Assisted Living, and Hodroff Pavilion for Memory Care as well as for the residents of Sholom Home West (care center).
Resident favorites include: bingo games, Thursday happy hours, gardening in the courtyard, spiritual services and programs, community outings and in-house luncheons. Each month, we focus on a different theme and try to plan many of our programs/events around that theme. June 2012 is Family Month on the Ackerberg Campus. We will be hosting Father’s Day barbecues in multiple locations, Kane Family bingo at Sholom Home West as well as a Campus-wide Family Carnival on June 14th. There will also be many fun in-house programs related to the theme of family. We always welcome visitors to check out any of our great programs!
The Therapeutic Recreation department of the Shaller campus plans programs and special events for the tenants of Bentson Assisted Living, Jay andRosePhillipsCenterfor Memory Care, as well as for the residents of Shirley Chapman Sholom Home East. This summer we have several exciting events and programs planned at the Shaller campus! We will go on a fishing trip, boating outing, to a Twins and Saints baseball game, a trip toComoParkas well as a lot of barbequing! Both the Ackerberg campus and Shaller campus will be starting up another round of COMPAS Arts classes to begin in August. This time we are honored to work with a new artist, Anne Krocak, who will help us create clay tiles!
