Dr. Battis honored for volunteerism

The Silver Beaver award is given by the Boy Scouts of America for service to the council.

Sholom’s long-time medical director, Dr. George Battis, will receive the Silver Beaver Award, a council-level distinguished service award from the Boy Scouts of America. Recipients of this award are registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council. The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service.

This is an award given to volunteers for their service to youth. In this council we have about 22,000 adult volunteers serving about 75,000 youth.

This award is given from nomination by other adults and is awarded to only 25 adults this year. It is the highest award given by a council.
