Sholom Auxiliary

About the Auxiliary

Auxiliary members work tirelessly to provide the “extras” that make the Sholom Homes so exceptional. Special events and activities raise the dollars needed to enhance our residents’ well being.

Each month the Sholom Home Auxiliary contributes $13,000 to the operating budget of each Sholom Homes. It also supplies significant dollars for resident equipment, aesthetic items for the Homes, and special staffing needs.

Membership Luncheons

Auxiliary members get a sneak-preview of the year’s newest fashions - from Dana Buchman to Ellen Tracy to St. John - at our annual Fall Meeting and Fashion Show. This exciting event also keeps members in-the-know about Auxiliary successes and the needs of the Sholom Homes. The Annual Spring Meeting and Installation welcomes the “Snowbirds” back to town and gives recognition and congratulations to hard-working Auxiliary board members past, present and future.

Silver "No Event Event” Tea

This “by mail only” fundraiser is an important yearly event. "Invitations" were mailed out in July. Monies raised help the Auxiliary to provide those extra enhancements to enrich the lives of our seniors.

Delicious Knishes Project

The Sholom Home Auxiliary's famous “Delicious Knishes” - mouthwatering seasoned potato puffs - are made from a traditional recipe passed down from generation to generation. Although these delightful morsels are are no longer being sold outside the fairgrounds during the Minnesota State Fair - they are still available. They are packed and frozen by the dozen and can be purchased and picked up at either Sholom Home throughout the year. To place your order, call Shirley Chapman Sholom Home East at (651) 328-2000 or Sholom Home West at (952) 935-6311. Cost: $15/dozen (small) and $18/dozen (large) - or download this form and mail in your High Holiday order today!

Sholom Auxiliary's beloved "Knish Ladies" (actually 19 women and one man!) were named the 2006 Minnesota Health & Housing Alliance's (MHHA) Volunteers of the Year for District G, which encompasses the Twin Cities metro. The award honors individuals who go "above and beyond" to enhance and enrich the quality of life for seniors in their communities.

This dedicated group has made, baked and sold more than 100,000 knishes over the past 20 years, raising over $200,000 to buy much-needed equipment like wheelchairs and foodservice equipment to enhance the qualify of life for seniors in both Sholom nursing homes, and to supplement the fees tenants and residents pay in the beauty/barber shops in each facility.
